Is hybrid the same card as a full class?
Yes. Both earn the same 2-year HSI certification. For boat crews, Adult First Aid | CPR AED is Coast Guard approved, hybrid or in-person; ask for the signed Coast Guard form. Hybrid is online knowledge and videos at your own pace, then a skills check of 45 minutes to an hour in Sitka. In-person covers everything in one class of 4 to 6 hours, depending on the course. If your employer specifically requires a fully in-person class, choose that option.
Does my job require it?
Federal OSHA and AKOSH don't require every worker to be certified. They do require someone at work to be trained in first aid when a clinic or hospital isn't close by, and some jobs, like electrical work and logging, also need CPR. Check with your employer for their exact rule.

What do fishing boats need?
Coast Guard rules for commercial fishing vessels (46 CFR Part 28) require a set number of crew trained in first aid and CPR, based on how many people are aboard. There is no federal AED requirement for fishing vessels. Take Adult First Aid | CPR AED, hybrid or in-person. It's a Coast Guard approved course. You get the HSI card, and you can ask for the signed Coast Guard form.
Does Alaska require CPR for daycare staff?
Yes. Alaska child care licensing requires each caregiver to hold current pediatric first aid and pediatric CPR certification (7 AAC 57.350). Our Pediatric First Aid | CPR AED course meets it. Hybrid is $85 per person with no minimum, or $125 a seat in an in-person class. Same 2-year HSI card either way.
How does a private class add up?
$500 covers up to 4 people. Each person after that is $90, up to 8 in a session. A second session, even the next day, starts again at $500. For a bigger team, hybrid at $85 each is usually the better deal.
How long does CPR and First Aid certification last?
HSI CPR and First Aid certification is valid for 2 years. After your course you'll get a digital card by email from HSI. Physical replacement cards are $10 if you need one.
How long does the online part take?
Most people take 3 to 4 hours. Go at your own pace on a phone, tablet or computer.
What should I wear to the skills check?
Clothes you can kneel in. You'll be on the floor practicing on manikins. We bring the rest.
Is there a minimum age?
Call or text Travis to ask. You need to be able to do the skills, including chest compressions.
How do I pay?
You pay when you book, and that holds your seat. Card online is easiest. Cash or check works too, just call or text first.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Call or text Travis at (907) 738-9055 and we'll work it out. Same if you miss your class.
Do you teach outside Sitka?
Yes, for groups. We come to any Southeast Alaska town. Travel, lodging and trip expenses are billed at actual cost, with no flat trip fee. We agree on the details in writing before the trip. Need an inspection and a class? Book each one, and we'll do both on the same trip, so you only cover travel once.
